nothing’s real (ongoing)

35mm film

"Nothing's Real" examines surrealism, whimsy and humor in everyday moments. None of these images are staged or constructed. Each one represents a bizarre scene that I happened upon and then composed to highlight and exaggerate the strangeness. I approach image making with curiosity and questioning. The result is a body of work that resembles our reality, but feels slightly off. The lack of people, objects out of place, funny and abnormal public scenes - I want the viewer to chuckle, balk at, question what they are seeing. We live in a time when critical thinking, questioning, curiosity and a need to be grounded in our physical reality are more important than ever. My hope is that this project will leave viewers with a desire to hone in on their observation skills and engage intentionally with the world around them, while also accepting that it's a surreal world out there.
